MIT Sea Grant College is soliciting preliminary proposals for marine-related research projects to start February 1, 2014.
The MIT Sea Grant College Program is soliciting preliminary proposals for marine-related research projects to start February 1, 2014. Our program offers competitive funding to university-based, Massachusetts scientists who are eligible for Principal Investigator status at their home institutions. For more detailed information, and to register to submit an MITSG pre-proposal, please go to our RFP website.
MIT SG core research should address one of the four focus areas identified in our Strategic Plan. Projects are normally funded for two years at a maximum of $100,000 per year with a 50% match requirement. Pre-proposals are judged by our Joint Faculty and State/Industry Committees for scientific validity and value, and as to how well they support our strategic goals. This year we will also consider six-year Focused Research Proposals. Read the FRP page carefully - these projects receive partial funding from Sea Grant, phasing over time into full support by other agencies. Please contact MIT Sea Grant Director Chrys Chryssostomidis for guidance if you are interested in submitting a Focused Research proposal.
Principal Investigators whose pre-proposals score high in the initial review by our Technical Panel will be encouraged to submit a full proposal. Full proposals are subject to peer-review, with an opportunity for rebuttal. Our Technical Panel will review full proposals in September, and several will be recommended by the Joint Committees for funding by NOAA. All deadlines for the proposal process are given in the 2013 MIT Sea Grant Proposal Schedule.
Preliminary proposals are due by 5:00pm, Friday, February 22, 2013. This is a strict deadline with an automatic shutoff; there will be no exceptions. To submit a proposal, you must notify us in advance. Please reply to this email with a provisional project title and we will send you a password and instructions for online submission. This will not be considered a commitment to the topic, or to completing a submission.
